Girl Interrupted?  More like dehydrated - it was hot here in Pompeii also.  Pompeii is south of Naples (which looked like an armpit by the way) but is on a bluff overlooking the ocean in order to catch the cool ocean breeze.  So of course the day was completely still!

The guidebook said that water ran continuously through the streets to keep them clean and the pedestrians used the stepping stones to cross the street.  Three stones meant that the street was open to cart traffic and you can see the grooves that the wagon wheels cut in the paving stones
